So there are a ton of genealogy websites out there. They say FREE, until you try and use them, then it is only free for 14 days…
I have compiled a list of 11 actually FREE websites to hep in your genealogy research. Databases, archives, Libraries, reference websites etc.
Some require you to register with an email and password, but no credit card information needed.
FAMILY SEARCH.
Family Search is a non profit online open source family tree run by The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Access is open to anyone, You just need to create an account with a valid email and password.
2. NATIONAL ARCHIVES.
The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is the nation’s record keeper.
Those valuable records are preserved and are available to you, whether you want to see if they contain clues about your family’s history, need to prove a veteran’s military service, or are researching a historical topic that interests you.
ELLIS ISLAND SEARCH TOOL.
This search tool is a great resource, it requires a valid email to register, but is free to use .

CASTLE GARDEN:
Another Passenger ship collection , Castlegarden.org is a free database developed and funded by The Battery Conservancy.
It contains and makes available eleven million records of immigrants who arrived at the Port of New York from 1820 – 1892.
FIND A GRAVE–
Find a Grave is the best place on the internet to look for burial and other final disposition information for your family, friends and famous people.
The site provides tools that let people from all over the world work together, share information and build an online, virtual cemetery experience.
CYNDIS LIST–
A HUGE collection of categorized & cross-referenced links that point you to genealogical research sites online.
OLIVE TREE GENEALOGY

CHRONICLING AMERICA-
Brought to you by a joint effort of the Library of Congress and the National Endowment for Humanities, , Chronicling America is a vast collection of historic American Newspapers. You can search America’s historic newspaper pages from 1789-1963 or use the U.S. Newspaper Directory to find information about American newspapers published between 1690-present.
USGenWeb–
“The USGenWeb Project is a group of volunteers working together and having fun providing free online genealogy help and information for every U.S. state and county. Our national site provides links to state sites, which, in turn, provide gateways to the counties.”
GOOGLE NEWSPAPERS–
This is a news archives site, and “is an extension of Google News providing free access to scanned archives of newspapers and links to other newspaper archives on the web, both free and paid. Some of the news archives date back to 18th century. There is a timeline view available, to select news from various years.”
ALLEN COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY
-Special collections include African American and a Native American Gateway; military records; and a surname database contributed by researchers. One of the largest genealogical library collections in the U.S. “The ACPL Genealogy Center is a unique and valuable resource for the Northeastern Indiana community and the entire genealogical community at large. We have one of the largest research collections available, incorporating records from around the world.”
