Throwback Recipe: Mincemeat filling Sundae Sauce

Fan of old fashioned mincemeat pie?

Good news!!

This sundae sauce is the flavor without having to make a whole pie!

This recipe came from my grandmothers recipe box, and her mincemeat was one of my dads favorite things!

What is mincemeat?

Today what we know as mincemeat is an evolution of meat preservation from almost 1000 years ago! As the centuries passed, fruit, nuts and spirits were added to the meat.

what we consume today is now basically a mixture of fresh and dried fruits, spices, sugar, rum or brandy, and nuts.

I dont think there is a grey area when it comes to this stuff…You love it or you dont.

ingredients needed

  • 1 cup prepared mincemeat
  • Sugar- 1/2 cup
  • Orange Juice- 1/2 Cup
  • 1/2 cup apple- peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/4 cup chopped maraschino cherries

directions

in a small saucepan combine all ingredients.

Over medium high heat bring to boil.

Reduce heat to low and simmer gently for 10 minutes (uncovered). Stir occasionally.

serve warm over vanilla ice cream.
